Minimizing Interference in Ad-Hoc Networks with Bounded Communication Radius
نویسنده
چکیده
We consider a topology control problem in which we are given a set of sensors in R and we would like to assign a communication radius to each of them so that they generate a connected network and have low receiver-based interference (defined as the largest in-degree of the network). We show that any radii assignment that generates a connected network can be modified so that interference is (asymptotically) unaffected and no sensor is assigned communication radius larger than Rmin, where Rmin is the smallest possible radius needed to obtain strong connectivity. Combining this result with the previous network construction methods [7, 11], we obtain a way to construct a connected network of low interference and bounded radii. Since the radius of a sensor is only affected by neighboring sensors, this construction can be done in a distributed fashion.

The Feedback Based Mechanism for Video Streaming Over Multipath Ad Hoc Networks
Ad hoc networks are multi-hop wireless networks without a pre-installed infrastructure. Such networks are widely used in military applications and in emergency situations as they permit the establishment of a communication network at very short notice with a very low cost. Video is very sensitive for packet loss and wireless ad-hoc networks are error prone due to node mobility and weak links. H...

We consider the following interference model for wireless sensor and ad hoc networks: the receiver interference of a node is the number of transmission ranges it lies in. We model transmission ranges as disks. For this case we show that choosing transmission radii which minimize the maximum interference while maintaining a connected symmetric communication graph is NP-complete.

متن کاملOn Constructing Interference-Aware k-Fault Resistant Topologies for Wireless Ad Hoc Networks
The most fundamental problem in wireless ad-hoc networks is to determine a connected communication subgraph that satisfies desirable topological properties by assigning appropriate transmission power to each node. Some of the properties considered by a vast majority of researchers include minimum-energy, fault tolerance, minimum interference, and bounded node degree. However preserving two or m...

Directional antennas have the potential to significantly improve the throughput of a wireless ad hoc network. At the same time, energy consumption can be considerably reduced if the network implements per-packet transmission power control. Typical MAC protocols for ad hoc networks (e.g., the IEEE 802.11 Ad Hoc mode) were designed for wireless devices with omnidirectional antennas. When used wit...
